Dino Melaye, the former lawmaker representing Kogi West at the Senate has declared support for his colleague and fellow Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Ike Ekweremadu, following his arrest by UK police.
The Metropolitan Police on Thursday, June 23, arrested and charged the three-time Deputy President of the Senate and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka to court on organ trafficking charges.
The couple was arrested at London Heathrow Airport on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, on their way to Istanbul, Turkey to procure a kidney donor for their ailing daughter after a plan to use an unnamed minor from Nigeria was frustrated by the UK authorities.

Reacting, Dino Melaye gave reason for supporting his embattled colleague by posting a letter Ekweremadu wrote to the British High Commission in Nigeria letting them know about his mission to the United Kingdom, on his social media handle.
“Sen. Ike Ekweremadu notified the British authorities on his trip with the said boy. I stand with Ike,” Dino Melaye wrote on Facebook.
Meanwhile, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice Nwanneka have been remanded in custody by a UK Court following their unsuccessful bail application over organ trafficking charges.
Sen Ike Ekweremadu is one of Nigeria’s longest-serving Senators, currently serving his fifth consecutive term representing the Enugu-West senatorial district in Enugu State.
He also holds the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) national honour.
