Nigerians have reacted hilariously, following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) threat to jail landlords who rent their houses to internet fraudsters better known as Yahoo Boys.
The EFCC sounded the warning ahead of its next edition of its public conversation series tagged, “#EFCCConnect,” with the topic “Give your house to Yahoo boys, spend 15 years in jail”.
Following the declaration of war by the EFCC on landlords and their yahoo boy patrons, Nigerians took to social media, with most deriding the decision, querying if the anti-graft agency doesn’t have more pressing duties.
While some made fun of the EFCC’s decision.
Here are some reactions gathered by The Quest Times:
@Yemihazan Efcc is about to start jailing landlords for renting their apartments to yahoo boys, 15 year jail term. Lmao
@YemieFash EFCC saying they will begin to arrest landlords who rent their houses to yahoo boys is hilarious. How do you even identify a yahoo boy? So landlords now need to become DSS investigating tenants before they rent their house to them? Very stupid!
@deejayfaremi Landlords now have to ask “Are you a Yahoo Boy?” when you go and rent a house. And if you are a Yahoo Boy, all you need to do is confess to them, so they’ll report you to the police. Sounds like a very easy way to stop Yahoo Boys from renting houses.

@PabloHoggs Tech boys are already victims of this new policy EFCC want to pass, bc tech boys work from home, use exotic cars, dress nice, have dreads, go to clubs, wear earrings & more. Some illiterate landlords don’t know the difference, they’ll just inform EFCC, one yahoo boy is here
@simplyEromz EFCC places 15 years jail term to landlords who rent out apartment to yahoo boys. I don’t know when EFCC got the power to jail, but if so, house rent is about to fall!
@scad_officialI hope EFCC understands that going after yahoo boys & landlords isn’t the only way to fight financial crimes in Nigeria.
@lollylarry1 If you as a landlord rent your house out to an internet fraudster, you’ll serve 15 years in jail. Na EFCC talk am, no be me.
@erigganewmoney Dem say 15 years imprisonment for landlord when rent house to yahoo boy but what about country when yahoo men dey rule?
