Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, is pulling no punches on critics of his sudden ‘romance’ with politicians of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).
Elected governor on the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) platform, eyebrows have been raised as Wike invites governors and politicians of the APC to his home state, amid defection rumours.
Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Ebonyi State counterpart Dave Umahi–both of the APC–are the latest governors to visit Port Harcourt at Wike’s behest.
Addressing critics on the thorny subject of flirting with APC politicians, while appreciating his guests for showing up to commission a project, Wike said; “So many people have been saying, why did we invite Lagos State Governor? Why now?
“And I have asked them a question. When is the time stipulated for me to invite you to come and commission flyover? The Minister of Works, Fashola, was here. Governor of Ekiti State was here. Minister of Sports was here. Minister of Health was here. Vice President was here.
“So, why is this one worrying people?
“So, those of you who want to have hypertension, have hypertension!!”
Addressing his guests, Wike said; “And I have no regrets inviting you to come and commission this project. I am very, very happy.”
Wike has endured a frosty relationship with PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar for many years now. Atiku overlooked the Rivers Governor as he scoured the PDP landscape for a running mate.
Atiku and Wike have also aimed darts each other’s way on national television, underscoring the fact that there’s no love lost between both politicians of the same party.
