The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has told the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to ignore Rivers state at his own peril.
The Governor said during a media chat in Port Harcourt that Atiku cannot become the president in 2023 without the votes from Rivers state.
Gbenga Aruleba of the Africa Independent Television (AIT) asked the Governor to explain his reaction to the suggestion that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the 2015 and 2019 presidential elections without the votes from Rivers state.
The governor said: “If God says you’ll be president, no man can stop it. But, ignoring a state [Rivers State] that has given PDP 100% votes since 1999 shows you don’t understand politics.”
Wike said some persons are relying on the support from someone in the Presidency. He said; “The presidency is not [President Muhammadu] Buhari. Buhari is the head of the Presidency.
“During the APC primary, some people said the presidency was behind [Senate President] Lawan. The presidency later came out to deny the endorsement the same day,” he said.
