There was a massive turnout as Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) visited Edo, Southern Nigeria on Friday.
Earlier, Obi was in Abia on Thursday, November 10, to flag off the 2023 governorship campaign of the party’s governorship candidate in the State, Mr. Alex Otti, with an assurance that Nigeria would experience a new lease of life with LP in charge of affairs.
The flag-off ceremony was initially mired in controversy, following the attempt by the Abia State government to force a change of venue on the grounds that the Ngwa High School was a public facility that could not be used for political activities.
But reason eventually prevailed, and the LP faithful popularly branded as “Obidients,” thronged the school premises in Aba to welcome Obi and his wife, Margaret as well as the Vice-Presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, among other party chieftains.
Barely 24 hours after his visit to Abia, the presidential candidate in a tweet on Friday wrote:
“What an awesome and OBIdient crowd in Benin.
“I am deeply humbled by the Edo people’s show of love and support.”
In Benin City, Mr Obi visited the Oba of Benin. He was also pictured with popular cleric, Apostle Johnson Suleman.
