The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal will begin hearing petitions challenging Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as Nigeria’s President-elect on Monday of next week.
This means that the legal battle between candidates contesting the announced presidential election results in 2023 will begin on May 8.
The date was confirmed by the All Progressives Congress’s National Legal Adviser, Ahmad El-Marzuq.
According to El-Marzuq, the APC legal team has been briefed and is prepared to defend the party’s mandate.
On March 1, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, declared Tinubu the president-elect.
Tinubu received 8.8 million votes, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who received 6.9 million votes, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, who received 6.1 million votes, and 15 others.
Atiku and Obi have since filed separate petitions seeking orders to annul the election or declare them the winners.
