The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, has appointed the first female Professor of Law in the Northwest, Aisha Maikudi, as the institution’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic.
Professor Philip Afaha was also named as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration.
The Quest Times learned that this was disclosed in a statement by the university on Monday.
The Council approved Maikudi’s appointment during its 96th Regular Meeting held between Thursday, May 4 and Friday, May 5, 2023.
The council’s approval was sequel to the selection of the two university Dons for the leadership positions during the 78th extraordinary meeting of the senate held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, in accordance with the provisions of the University of Abuja Act.

“The appointment which took effect from May 5, 2023, would be for a period of two years in the first instance,” the statement said.
Maikudi was born on January 31, 1983. She obtained her Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Reading in 2004, while her Master of Law degree was obtained from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2005.
She also received a doctorate degree in International Law in 2015 from the University of Abuja.
Maikudi joined the University of Abuja in 2008 as Lecturer 2 and became a Professor in 2022.
