In the early hours of Sunday, a tragic attack unfolded in the Tudun Doki community of Gwadabawa Local Government Area in Sokoto State. Gunmen launched an assault that resulted in the deaths of at least six people and the abduction of more than 100 residents. This shocking event has left the community reeling.
Ahmed Rufai, the spokesman for Sokoto State Police, confirmed the incident. “Six dead bodies were recovered by a search team and effort is still ongoing to recover other missing persons,”
Rufai reported. He mentioned that the Divisional Police Officer of Gwadabawa led a team to the scene to assess the damage and restore order.
Witnesses from Tudun Doki recounted the harrowing experience. They said that around 1:30 am, approximately seven heavily armed men stormed the community, shooting indiscriminately and capturing numerous residents. The once peaceful area was thrown into chaos as the attackers roamed through the community.
In response to the attack, troops from Operation Whirl Punch conducted raids in Kaduna State, targeting bandit hideouts. On the Gonna Rogo-Eka axis of Kajuru Local Government Area, soldiers engaged with bandits in a fierce firefight, resulting in the deaths of three assailants. The troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and 81 rounds of ammunition.
Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, provided details on the operation. He stated, “Troops conducting clearance patrols neutralised three bandits along the Gonna Rogo-Eka axis of Kajuru LGA.” Governor Uba Sani praised the security forces for their efforts, highlighting the importance of their operations in ensuring a peaceful Eid celebration for residents.
