The Joint Security Force (JSF) has apprehended individuals including a ‘native doctor’ in Ufuma, Orumba North local government, suspected of preparing charms for members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN). The arrests, made on Monday, were based on intelligence indicating planned attacks on security agents and civilians by the groups, as stated by Anambra Police command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu.
Among the detained suspects is Maduabuchi Nwafor (aka- Omenkpo), 32, a native of Ufuma, identified as a provider of criminal charms and a venue for initiation ceremonies and criminal meetings for the groups. One suspect, whose identity is withheld, is cooperating with police and confessed to involvement in enforcing illegal sit-at-home orders on May 30th, 2024.
“Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has ordered an extensive investigation to uncover insurgent hideouts aimed at destabilizing development in the state. The police assure residents of Anambra of their commitment to serve and protect, safeguarding the identities of informants for their safety.”
