Veteran Nigerian music producer, Olumide Ogunade, known as ID Cabasa, recently shared the reasons behind his shift in religious beliefs. He discussed his journey away from being a “very religious Christian” to adopting a more critical approach to religious teachings.
In an interview with Echo Room, Cabasa explained that his perspective changed when he realized the importance of distinguishing between God’s words and human interpretations in the Bible.
He said, “When you are reading the Bible, pay attention to the Jewish culture and pay attention to what God is saying. They are two different things.”
Cabasa recalled that his change in views began during his university years. He noted that understanding the context and the cultural background of the Bible helped him see the difference between divine messages and human opinions presented as divine.
He said, “I used to be a very religious Christian until when I was about leaving the university and I discovered that even the Bible that I am reading, I need to pay attention to when it is God that’s speaking and when it’s man that’s speaking in the name of God.”
Besides his views on religion, Cabasa also talked about his thoughts on feminism and transgenderism. He expressed concern over how feminism has evolved, stating, “Where feminism started from is not where we are now, the meaning has changed. It was meant to fight for the rights [of women] but now it has gotten to the point that you see men behaving like women.”
He also voiced his opinion on transgenderism, describing it as harmful to humanity. He said, “This thing [transgenderism] is against humanity. It’s meant to stop you from reproducing.”
