Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, garnered unwanted attention on social media over her response to critics on the late evacuation of Nigerians from war-hit Sudan.
She practically yanked off the gloves and insulted critics who called on the federal government to do better, as governments of other nations pull out all the stops to evacuate their nationals from conflict-prone Sudan.
The Quest Times reports that fighting has broken out between the Sudanese army led by Lt. Gen Abdul Fattah al-Burhan and the paramilitary force, the Rapid Support Force led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, popularly referred to as Hemetti, leading Western nations to evacuate their diplomats and nationals out of Sudan.
Following the development, there have been strident calls on Twitter for the evacuation of Nigerians, especially students, from Sudan.
In one of such calls on Twitter, Dabiri-Erewa lashed out at a user who condemned the tardiness of the federal government on the evacuation of Nigerians, describing him as an unprogressive, retrogressive “Obidient” and “labouring in vain.”
She also poked fun at a Twitter user for having only 83 followers.
It all began when a Twitter user, @bulamaacartoons tagged her in a tweet calling for the evacuation of Nigerians.
He tweeted; “1:55GMT Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has confirmed that British diplomats and their families have been evacuated from Sudan in a “complex and rapid” operation. We urge Nigerian Govt to intensify its effort to evacuate Nigerian nationals @NigeriaMFA @abikedabiri @MBuhari.
She responded: “British diplomats! What about the over 3000 British citizens resident there? Complaining! We will not rescue only our diplomats and families and leave our thousands of students. All will be back. Safely! By God’s grace.”
However, a citizen, @Prince_Bamidele responded by saying: “Stop saying by God’s grace, Shey nah God’s grace Buhari employ? Always full of excuses, Late comers.”
Dabiri-Erewa, in a response unbecoming of a diplomat, descended to trolling the user.
She wrote: “Maybe that is why you have remained stagnant and unprogressive, retrogressively “disobedient,” and labouring in vain because all you’ve ever laid your hands on is by the grace of the devil you worship. Mr 83
followers.”
Abike has been returning insults for insults on Twitter on the subject since last weekend.
