A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday in the Ago Okota area of Lagos when a vehicle, involved in a chase with a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official, collided with a tricycle, resulting in the loss of lives.
The victims included a pregnant woman and her two children, as well as the tricycle driver.
According to a Vanguard report, the incident unfolded when a LASTMA official at Okota Roundabout attempted to seize control of a moving Toyota Sienna vehicle from the driver, who had allegedly violated traffic regulations. This attempt led to the vehicle losing control and colliding with a tricycle on Bayo Oyewale Street.
The pregnant woman was reportedly on her way to school with her children when the tragic accident occurred.
The incident provoked a public outcry, with an enraged crowd confronting the LASTMA official involved. Fortunately, a team of police officers arrived in time to prevent the official from being harmed.
The officers used tear gas to disperse the mob and also cleared a roadblock set up by protesters, ultimately taking the LASTMA official into custody.
