Hajia Aishatu Binnani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Adamawa State, has been suspended by her Yola-South Local Council chapter, just few days before the governorship election.
According to a statement issued yesterday in Yola and signed by the 21 executive members, Binnani was accused of refusing to appear before a disciplinary committee to answer allegations leveled against her.
According to the statement: “The Yola-South chapter of the APC received and reviewed a petition against Binnani from a member of the party from Bako Ward – Auwal Hamma Adama. Adama accused her of causing disunity among members in the ward.”
While speaking to journalists in Yola, the local council APC chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, who confirmed the suspension, urged the state executive to uphold the suspension in order to instill discipline in the party. The suspension is set to last six months unless the state executive members reverse it.
However, in a swift response, State APC Publicity Secretary Mohammed Abdullahi stated that the party’s constitution does not give local council party executives the authority to suspend a member of the party, except at the ward level.
Abdullahi said the decision was an exercise in futility, null and void and of no effect whatsoever.
