There was pandemonium as a yet-to-be ascertained number of persons have been killed in a suicide attack at a wedding in Gwoza, a town in Borno State on Saturday.
A female suicide bomber was said to have stormed the venue of the wedding, where she promptly detonated the IED she used in carrying out the attack.
Eye witnesses said that the wedding guests are among the dead victims, while many others sustained injuries in the attack.
Details of the incident are sketchy as of the time of filing this report. A source said it happened around 10am on Saturday.
A survivor reportedly claimed that the female suicide bomber was carrying a baby on her back when she stormed the wedding venue and detonated the bomb.
According to Channels Television, “The wedding was held at Tashan Mararaba near the fire service in Gwoza town.
“The number of dead persons is yet to be ascertained but several of the injured persons are receiving treatment at the General hospital in Gwoza, including this source.
“Security agencies are also yet to comment on the incident as of now.”
Suicide attacks were common occurrences in Borno in the heat of insurgency.
Security forces have however succeeded in containing the situation.
