The custom officers of the Adamawa/Taraba Area Command have seized 15,449 litres of Premium Motor Spirit worth N13m amongst other items. The Area Controller, Salisu Abdullahi, stated this during a press briefing held on November 17, 2023 at the headquarters of the Area Command in Yola.
Other items intercepted by Nigeria Customs service (NCS) include; 19 cartons of foreign insecticide and 26 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice.
Due to the flammability of the PMS also, the Comptroller noted that most of the products had been disposed of in accordance with the laws guiding the agency and all proceeds got from the product had been remitted into the Federation Account.
Furthermore, Abdullahi explained that the remaining fraction of the PMS will be auctioned after the briefing.
He said that the command was unable to arrest any of the smugglers, as they all ran away. However, he promised to clamp down on all smugglers, while noting that the nation cannot afford to allow saboteurs to take over the economy.
Hence, the comptroller called on Nigerians, stakeholders and all relevant security agencies at the Command’s borders to continue collaborating with Customs to fight against the menace of smuggling in the state.
