The death toll from airstrikes that killed a group of herders in Nasarawa State has risen to 40 from 27, the State government has said.
The bomb explosion took place in Rukubi, a village on the border between Nasarawa and Benue States.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, on Thursday after a meeting with the leadership of Meyeti Allah Kautal Hore led by its National President, Alhaji Abubakar Bello-Bodejo, in Government House, Lafia gave the update while briefing newsmen.
“We now have approximately 40 people that were killed,” he said.
He explained that the rumour earlier was that the airforce carried out the bombing, but stated that there was no airforce plane that flew above the area.
The governor stated that rather, it was a drone that flew above the area and dropped the bomb.
Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has earlier alleged that the explosion was caused by a military jet.
Lawal Dano of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, on Wednesday, alleged that it is only the military that has jets to carry out aerial strikes and called on the government for proper investigation of the incident.
