Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has said that he was very surprised that goalkeeper David de Gea did not stop Ilkay Gundogan’s FA Cup final winner.
The former goalkeeper said it was a major mistake by the former Spain international, who seemed to have seen the ball late as Gundogan’s second goal in the 51st minute secured Manchester City the 2023 FA Cup trophy.
The Manchester City skipper did not strike the ball cleanly but the spinning ball evaded players in the box and flew past De Gea despite the Spaniard getting a hand on it.

Schmeichel, who spoke on the error while analysing the game on BBC, said the Spaniard should have done better.
“I think he should have done better,” Schmeichel said. “I was very surprised.
“I look at where he is in the goal… If I put myself in there I would be thinking ‘okay, I have to be right in the middle of this triangle, he gets a full hand on it!
“He’s a little bit too deep… he should move toward where the ball is.”
