The Save Nigeria Movement (SNM) has demanded an urgent retraction and apology from Governors Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state and Umar Ganduje of Kano state as well as the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode over some statements allegedly made by the trio against the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele over the recent naira design policy.
The SNM in separate letters to the trio dated February 6th and signed by TD Sorkaa, said it won’t hesitate to drag them to court if such statements are not withdrawn within the next seven days.
The letters which was made available to newsmen on Sunday, stated that Fani-Kayode on record accused Emefiele of nursing a hidden agenda with the introduction of the naira redesign policy on a Channels Television’s special election programme, The 2023 Verdict on 1st February, 2023.
Governor Ganduje on his own part was said to have made some inflammatory statements that Emefiele introduced the change of naira notes policy because of his failed presidential ambition on Sahara Reporters on 3rd February, 2023.
While Malam el-Rufai was accused of making some inciting statements that the naira redesign and cash swap by Emefiele was a ploy to make the All Progressives Congress (APC) loss the elections on Channels Television’s programme, Sunrise Daily on 1st February, 2023.
The SNM in the letter said Emefiele acted within the mandate of the CBN Act and clear instructions of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Moreover, any attempt by you to politicise a legitimate policy and directive of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will be vehemently resisted by our clients within the ambits of the law.
“We hereby demand forthwith you tender apology to Nigerians and retraction of your statements in three (3) national dailies and Channels Television within seven (7) days upon receipt of our legal correspondence.
“TAKE NOTICE that should you fail or refuse to tender apology and retraction of your unsubstantiated statements within seven (7) days upon receipt of our legal correspondence, we will have no option but to take all legal steps to compel you forthwith.” the group said.
