Kano state government has filed a fresh five-count charge at a Kano State High Court against the killer of late five-year-old Hanifa Abubakar, Abdulmalik Tanko and two of his accomplices.
The development was revealed by the Kano State Director of Public Prosecution, Bar. Aisha Mahmoud on Wednesday, 2nd February, 2022.
According to Mahmoud, Kano state filed the charges at the High Court, as the Magistrate Court lacks the jurisdiction to hear the case.

According to her, “Considering the offences committed by the accused persons and considering the fact that this court don’t have the jurisdiction to trial the case, we informed the court that we have filed a five-count charges before the High Court. The Chief Judge has directed the case to Court 5 and they are expected to fix a date for the persons to be arraigned before the court.
“Based on this, we appeal to the court that the accused persons be remanded pending when the case will come up at the High Court,” Bar. Mahmoud however stated.
Chief Magistrate Mohammed Jibrin who presided over the case, granted the prayers and ordered the remanding of Abdulmalik Tanko and his accomplices, while adjourning the case to Wednesday, 9th February 2022.
Abdulmalik Tanko and his accomplices face charges of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, confinement and culpable homicide, contrary to section 97 of the penal code.
