How to Check NIN Online or Retrieve Your NIMC Details

In Nigeria, the National Identification Number (NIN) has become an essential piece of information for citizens and legal residents. With 11 digits to remember, it’s understandable that one might forget their NIN, especially when it’s required during important registration processes.

But don’t worry! Checking your NIN number on popular Nigerian networks such as MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9mobile, and even online platforms is very easy.

All you need is your mobile phone.

How to Check Your NIN Number on Nigerian Networks

To check your NIN using your smartphone, dial *346# and select option 1 to view your NIN.

NOTE: This method only works if your SIM card has been registered and linked with a NIN in the past. Also, keep in mind that a fee of N20 will be deducted from your airtime balance, so make sure you have sufficient funds to complete the process successfully.

Checking Your NIN Number Online

As of now, there is no online platform available for checking your NIN number. You can only access your NIN through the SIM card that was registered with it.

Linking Your Phone Number to NIN

To ensure a seamless experience, it is important to link your phone number to your NIN.

Even, all major network providers in Nigeria, including MTN, Airtel, 9mobile, and Glo, made it mandatory for the subscribers to link their NIN to their phone numbers before the SIM can be activated for use.

How to Use the NIMC Mobile App to Link Your Phone Number to NIN

The NIMC mobile app is designed to make life easier for you. It allows you to link up to 7 different phone numbers to your NIN simultaneously. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the NIMC mobile app and navigate to the “MY DEVICES” section.
  2. Click on “ADD MOBILE NUMBER” and enter the phone number you want to link.
  3. An OTP (One-Time Password) code will be sent to the provided number. Enter the code to complete the process.

How To Link NIN to MTN

MTN subscribers can link their NIN to their phone numbers using the following methods:

USSD

Dial *785# on the SIM card you wish to link and follow the prompts to provide your NIN. Alternatively, you can dial *785*NIN# and send.

Text

You can send a text message containing your National Identification Number to 785.

Mobile App

  1. Download the myMTN app.
  2. Log in with your phone number.
  3. Go to MY Profile.
  4. Add your NIN to link with your phone number.

Office

You can also visit any MTN office near you and speak to a customer care representative. The will help you link your NIN to your phone number.

How To Link NIN to Airtel

Airtel users can link their NIN to their phone numbers by following these steps:

USSD

Dial *121*1# on your Airtel phone number and enter your NIN when prompted. Finally, click on the send button.

Text

You can also send a message in the format (NIN) (11-digit number) and send to 121.

How To Link NIN to Glo

Glo subscribers can link their NIN to their phone numbers through the following methods:

USSD

Dial *109# on the SIM card you want to register and follow the prompts to provide your NIN.

Alternatively, you can dial *109*NIN#.

Text

You can also send a message in the format (NIN) (11-digit number) and send to 109.

How To Link NIN to 9mobile

As a 9mobile subscriber, you can link your NIN to your phone number using these methods:

USSD

Dial *996# on the SIM card you want to register and follow the prompts to enter your NIN details.

Online

Visit 9mobile’s official website and submit your NIN directly to complete the linking process.

How to Register for NIN Online

To enroll for your NIN online, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official website of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for the pre-enrollment process.
  2. Fill in all the required information on the pre-enrollment form.
  3. Print out the form containing a 2D Barcode.
  4. Take the form to a registered NIMC enrollment center for data capture and processing.

How to Check NIN on Glo

To check NIN on Glo, dial *346# and select option 1 when prompted. You’ll receive a popup message informing you that there will be a charge of 20 Naira for the service. Simply select 1 to continue and check your NIN.

How to Retrieve NIN on MTN

To check NIN on MTN, dial *346# and select option 1 to view your NIN. A popup message will appear, informing you that 20 Naira will be deducted from your account for this service. Just press 1 to proceed, and your NIN number will appear on the screen.

How to Check NIN on 9Mobile

To check NIN on 9Mobile, dial *346# and choose option 1 to retrieve your NIN. Then, select 1 to continue and access your NIN number.
Remember, a charge of 20 Naira will be deducted from your account.

How to Retrieve NIN on Airtel

To check NIN on Airtel, dial *346# and select option 1 to retrieve your NIN. A popup message will appear, notifying you that there will be a charge of 20 Naira for this service. Press 1 to proceed and get your NIN number displayed on your screen.
