Following an incident captured on video where Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti was seen assaulting a police officer in uniform, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has instructed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, to apprehend him.
In a press release dated Saturday, May 13, 2023, and signed by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters, it was stated that the IGP has also directed a prompt and thorough investigation into both the immediate and underlying causes of the assault. The suspect will be prosecuted accordingly.

The spokesperson for the police force further emphasized that the IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, has assured the Nigerian public that acts of disrespect or disregard for authority figures will not be tolerated. Those who commit such heinous crimes will be held accountable and face the full force of the law.
Kuti has said he’d be cooperating fully with the police. According to the singer, a police car had rammed into his on the bridge, putting the life of his family in danger, before the altercation ensued.
