The incoming Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has claimed that he is not the best candidate to run the state.
Alia, on the other hand, asserted that he is qualified to run the State since God made him governor.
He disclosed this in yesterday’s victory address.
The State’s governorship election was held on Saturday, and Alia was proclaimed winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Alia of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the election by defeating Herman Hembe of the Labour Party and Titus Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who were his closest competitors.
The Catholic priest received 473,933 votes, defeating Uba, who received 223,913 votes.
“My beloved fellow residents of Benue State, I stand before you. I stand before you today as the duly elected Governor of Benue state.
“I am acutely aware of what a great honor and privilege it is to be trusted with the State’s administration, especially at this time. I’d want to assert that God does not choose the capable! He describes the call.
“The Good Lord who has called me will qualify me. I may not be the most qualified Benue son to rule the State at this time,” he said.
Alia praised the State’s citizens for supporting him in a resounding fashion.
He added; “I have never in my life witnessed a people express their aspirations and wishes with such enthusiasm as I saw from you in this election.”
