President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence that Nigeria’s security forces are making significant progress in combating insecurity in the Northwest region.
This declaration was made during the Northwest Peace and Security Summit held by the North-West Governors’ Forum in Katsina, the capital of Katsina State, on Monday.
Representing President Tinubu at the summit, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance security and protect citizens. He assured the public that the successes achieved thus far are merely the beginning of a more extensive campaign to secure the nation.
“Our military forces, through various operations such as Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Safe Haven, have made true their promise to the nation by targeting groups like Boko Haram and bandits who have held sway for too long,” Shettima stated.
“Through enhanced border security and intelligence capabilities, we have disrupted and dismantled criminal networks. Each of you here is aware of the high-profile figureheads of these groups neutralized by our forces, and I am here to share with you that this is just the beginning.”
Addressing concerns that the insecurity in the Northwest might be part of a sectional agenda, the President reiterated that instability in any part of the country affects the whole nation. He stressed that the administration’s commitment to securing Nigeria has been a top priority since taking office over a year ago.
Tinubu highlighted the strategies the government has employed in the fight against insecurity, noting that they are starting to show positive results. He assured that efforts would continue relentlessly until insurgents are completely eradicated.
The President also revealed that the government is working diligently to enhance cooperation among security agencies to ensure a coordinated approach in tackling insurgency. This includes adhering to guidelines, such as standard operating procedures and rules of engagement, in all security operations.
