President Bola Tinubu has been described as a “bold leader” in tackling the crisis stemming from the military coup in the Republic of Niger.
On Sunday, Tinubu hosted Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) leaders in an effort to restore ousted Niger President Mohamed Bazoum.
Bazoum was overthrown by his presidential guards following hours of house arrest in the country’s capital, Niamey, last Wednesday.

As the ECOWAS Chair, Tinubu took early steps to restore democracy in the West African country by meeting with President Patrice Talon of Benin Republic in Abuja on the same day and then sending him to Niger for mediation talks.

Presiding over a meeting of West African leaders on Sunday, Tinubu made another major move to restore democratic order in Niger, giving the army a one-week deadline to reinstate Bazoum.
US Secretary of State, Blinken, commended Tinubu’s efforts via a Twitter post on Sunday, stating that he has displayed “bold leadership.”
During the meeting, bilateral and multilateral efforts were discussed to resolve the crisis.
Blinken thanked Nigerian President Tinubu for his bold leadership on the crisis in Niger and expressed confidence that the issue will be resolved in favor of restoring constitutional order in Niger.
