If there’s one place no one expects to find loads and loads of cocaine, it’s sure not in the car of a Mayor.
Police in Niger have confiscated over 200kg of cocaine which were being transported using a mayor’s official truck.
For context, a full bag of rice is 50kg.
What’s even more shocking is the fact that the mayor and his driver were in the vehicle when they were stopped at a checkpoint where the drugs were discovered.
The West African region has served as a transit route for illicit drugs headed for Europe in recent times.
In January 2021, 3 tonnes of the drug was seized by Gambian authorities.
Last May, $37 million worth of Cannabis resin was also seized in the same Niger republic.
While the authorities have acknowledged the arrest of the mayor in question, time shall tell how the matter will be handled.
