A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief Olisa Agbakoba has said Nigerians are not interested in whether Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi is the president of the country but are only concerned about who can fix the country and reduce poverty in the land.
Agbakoba spoke with QUEST TIMES ahead of the much-anticipated verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPT) which is expected to be delivered on Wednesday, September 6th.
The Senior Advocate Of Nigeria (SAN) also said what Nigeria can do to halt the free fall of the naira against the dollar is to be productive, adding that unless that is done, no intervention by the government can yield any positive result.
He said “Whatever comes out of the tribunal, Nigerians are not interested in whoever is the president, they are interested in their stomach. So, whoever is Nigeria’s president whether it is Tinubu, Atiku, Peter Obi or whoever, what Nigerians are interested is, how can we turn around the economy to make it grow? How can we create jobs? That is all that is needed”.
“It is very simple but very difficult to implement. Politicians are not considering the plight of Nigerians where a bag of rice is over 50,000 and everything is so expensive. Is there any deliberate policy by the government to begin to tackle the weak economy profile and say that by two months, we will bring down the cost of living by 50 percent?”.
“That was what they did in the UK where they brought it down now by 30 percent. So, it requires careful thinking to make an economy work”.
