Senator Shehu Sani, an ex-lawmaker, has reacted to Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s closure of a commercial mall for refusing to accept obsolete Naira notes.
Sani voiced concerns that the Governor’s punishment was too severe.
He made the announcement on Sunday through his verified Twitter account.
On Ganduje’s orders, the Kano Consumer Protection Council, KCPC, shut down the WellCare retail complex for refusing to accept obsolete Naira notes.
According to KCPC, despite state government orders, WellCare stores refused to accept old naira notes from customers.
The council also stated that the supermarket will face legal action.
On the other hand, Sani has called the supermarket’s treatment authoritarian.
“Kano State shutting down a Mall because of the rejection of old Naira notes is repressive,” he tweeted.
