The Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Ogundare Dare, has vowed to hunt down the perpetrators of the recent attack of a broad daylight bank robbery in Ikere-Ekiti on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the command late Wednesday via its X account, Dare expressed “displeasure over the ugly incident” and ordered a full-scale investigation to “ensure the perpetrators are trailed, arrested and brought to book.”
Quest Times gathered that three persons were feared to have been killed in the armed robbery attacks on two new-generation banks in the state.
Sources explained that the armed robbers stormed the bank around 4.30 p.m, adding that they blew the doors of the banks with dynamite and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.
A source who spoke to newsmen said that he saw a blood-soaked, lifeless body around the gate of one of the banks, while two others were killed by the robbers in another location in the town.
The source stated,“I can confirm the killing of a man at one of the banks. He was shot in the head. The lifeless body was there until police arrived the scene and people dispersed. I heard that two others were shot dead at another place.”
However, late Wednesday night, the police statement noted that “the Commissioner calls for calm and implores everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law.”
“While commiserating with the family members of those who were fatally affected and wishing those currently receiving treatment in the hospital a quick recovery, the commissioner calls for calm and implores everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement added.
“Meanwhile, the command’s tactical squads as well as the military who were deployed to the scene immediately information was received, engaged the hoodlums who abandoned the three vehicles and two motorcycles they used for the operation and escaped into the bush. The vehicles and motorcycles were recovered to the station.”
Conclusively, the commissioner enjoined anyone with useful information concerning the identities and/or whereabouts of armed hoodlums to contact the following GSM numbers: 08062335577, 07031620186, 08033470524, 07032152150, 09064050086.”
