The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has ensured that the June salaries and pensions for state workers and retirees are paid ahead of the upcoming Sallah festivities. This early payment is part of his commitment to supporting the welfare of the state’s workforce and pensioners.
Governor Obaseki made this announcement on Wednesday during the inauguration of the new Edo State Secretariat Complex in Benin City. This move fulfills a promise he made to state employees, demonstrating his administration’s dedication to timely salary payments.
In a statement released on Friday, Chris Nehikhare, the state Commissioner for Communications and Orientation, emphasized that this early disbursement aligns with the state government’s practice of paying salaries before the 26th of each month. He noted that this early payment is especially significant to help Muslim workers and pensioners celebrate Sallah with ease.
Nehikhare reiterated the government’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of its employees and retirees. He pointed out that recent reforms in the public and civil service sectors have significantly improved the working conditions in Edo State, making it an attractive place for public employment in Nigeria.
“Civil and public servants in Edo State have continued to promptly get payment of their salaries, even after raising the state’s minimum wage from N40,000 to N70,000, the highest in the country.
“We will continue to place a premium on the workers’ welfare, ensuring they are well-empowered and supported to deliver optimal and quality services to Edo people.”
