Reactions of shock and pessimism have trailed President Bola Tinubu’s allocation of ministries to ministers.
The list of 45 confirmed ministers and their assigned portfolios was released on Wednesday night and it is safe to say it took Nigerians by surprise.
Some of the eye-catching appointments include ex-governor Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa), a BSc Accounting holder who has been handed the reins at the Ministry of Defence, while ex-gov Bello Matawalle (Zamfara) will serve as Minister of Defence (State).
Others include APC Presidential campaign spokesman and Lawyer, Festus Keyamo as Minister for Aviation, Dele Alake who had been heavily tipped as Information minister ended up in the Ministry of Solid Minerals.
Following the allocation of ministries, Nigerians took to social media to express their thoughts on the development. The appointment of former governors as Ministers of Defence at such a crucial time when Nigeria is battling multiple security threats was met with criticism.
Others were described as a mismatch for the roles as they have no experience in the roles they have been assigned.
Here are some reactions gathered by The Quest Times
@ShehuSani In view of the security challenges faced by this country, I thought the Defence Minister should be a retired Military officer with experience and records of accomplishments. That office shouldn’t be just political, especially at this time.
@SamAmadi Tinubu’s ministerial team is a lady’s handbag: full of odds. This disorderly assemblage cannot be an orchestra. Never. Welcome to incoherence, as long as it lasts.
@DanielRegha Tinubu is appointing Festus Keyamo as Aviation Minister; With what qualification or experience pls? Many of the nominees aren’t qualified for their positions but that of Festus, & Wike as FCT Minister are laughable. Nepotism seems to be the new politics in Nigeria, what a shame.

@DemolaRewaju I find nothing to be excited or worthy of public discourse about Tinubu’s Ministers to be honest – a fraudulent mandate has no binding social contract on the man. Tuggar and Pate are solid but may be swallowed up by politics; Bosun Tijani and Hannatu Musawa can make a difference for a generation but they would have to be mavericks to get anything done in a cabinet of political interests, oversized egos and entitled personalities. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and this Tinubu cabinet has too many weak links to make an actual difference for Nigerians. Zero excitement and nothing worthy of public discourse here: All Eyes On The Judiciary.
@retzonel Wike for FCT Minister? Lol, this man go demolish trenches wey we dey manage in the name of “development”. Why not even give it to a bgagyi person? It’s thier land after all El-Rufai 2.0 is upon us.
