Nigeria Government delegation led by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received at least 108 stranded Nigerians repatriated from Libya.
NEMA said the returnees were assisted back to the country through the special intervention of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
The returnees who arrived from Tripoli aboard Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG touched down at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos around 5: 55 pm.
The returnees who were assisted back to the country by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) included 46 female adults; two female children and one female infant.
Others were 52 male adults, four male children, and four male infants.
Receiving the returnees, the Director General of the agency, Alhaji Mustapha Habib Ahmed reiterated the determination of the new administration to tackle the challenges facing the country and carry out all measures that would turn around the nation’s economy for positive development.
Ahmed also stated that the present administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would leave no stone unturned to address the challenges confronting the youths.
This was made known by Lagos Territorial Office Coordinator for NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, in a statement on Tuesday.
He said, “Receiving the Voluntary Assisted Returnees back in the country, the Director General of the Agency, Alhaji Mustapha Habib-Ahmed delivered the goodwill of the new administration to tackle the challenges facing the country and carry out all measures that would turn around the nation’s economy for positive development.
“Alhaji Habib-Ahmed also stated that the President is sending his promise that his administration will not leave the youths behind as a factor in the governance of the nation so as to incorporate their energy and technological skills which are the major impetus in aiding any progressive society in the world.
“The President would evolve a policy that youths and women will actively participate in the implementation of all policy.”
“The youths will be the driving force of all decisions in the present administration because of the importance that the leadership of this nation has placed on tapping the potential abound in the largest segment of the population,” Habib-Ahmed was quoted as saying.
The returnees comprised 52 adult males, 46 adult females, two female children, four male children, and five infants.
The flight landed at about 17.55 hours (5.55 pm).
The Director General was represented by Farinloye.
He urged the returnees to use the opportunity of their return to the country to be ambassadors of good tidings.
“The green pastures are here, let us tend the pastures to maturity so that benefits can be everlasting,” he said.
