Chief Ayo Adebanjo, a chieftain of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has said that ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo supports the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, because he is competent for the job.
Speaking exclusively to QUEST TIMES, the outspoken statesman said he believes Obasanjo is supporting the Labour Party candidate on the basis of his performance as Governor of Anambra state.

Obi was declared Governor of Anambra state in 2006 when Chief Obasanjo was still Nigeria’s president.
When asked if he believes in the sincerity of Obasanjo’s support for Obi, he said “Why are you asking that question? I believe OBJ is supporting Peter Obi.”
He said he believes the former president will support Obi over the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu or Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 elections.
The Afenifere chieftain who has openly declared support for Obi in recent months because he thinks it’s the turn of the South-East, said Obi is the best candidate the nation needs right now.
He said on the basis of competence, Obi will perform better than current President Muhammadu Buhari and Tinubu.

According to the Afenifere chief, “Peter Obi will be far, far better than Buhari and Tinubu. He cannot be compared to Tinubu.
“After all, those of you saying ‘Sai Baba’ [Buhari’s supporters’ rallying cry in 2015 and 2019 elections] for Buhari. From the situation of things now, can you still say that?” he queried.
He said with the situation in the country now, “we trust Obi because he’s a young man with bright ideas. If he does bad we will send him back.”
In an earlier exclusive chat with THE QUEST TIMES, 94-year-old Adebanjo had described Tinubu as a traitor to the Yoruba race which was why he is endorsing Obi over the former Governor of Lagos State.
