In some cases, it may even disrupt your ability to sleep well. The following remedies aim to provide relief from pain and irritation
1. Honey
Honey is very effective, especially when mixed in tea or taken on its own. It is also a common remedy for sore throat.
In 2021, a research review revealed that honey is just as effective as the cough suppressant dextromethorphan at taming coughs in children.
According to a research conducted by medical experts, the effect of honey on acute upper respiratory tract infections was examined, as the researchers concluded that honey was more effective at relieving symptoms than other treatments.
2. Saltwater gargle
A mixture of salt and water also relieves the throat of pain. This helps to soothe a sore throat and break down secretions. It may also help reduce bacteria in the throat.
All you need to do is to make a saltwater solution by adding half a teaspoon of salt to a full glass of warm water, gargle with it to help reduce swelling and keep the throat clear.
According to the American Osteopathic Association, people who experience sore throat should perform a saltwater gargle at least once an hour.
3. Baking soda gargle
While the saltwater gargle is more commonly used, gargling with a baking soda-saltwater mixture can also help relieve a sore throat. It has been proven that this oral solution can reduce bacteria and prevent the growth of fungi.
Treatment:
1 cup warm water.
1/4 teaspoon of baking soda.
1/8 teaspoon of salt.
Medical experts suggest that people should rinse three or four times daily and then rinsing your mouth with plain water.
4. Peppermint
This is a popular ingredient; peppermint is well known for its ability to freshen the breath.
It has anti-inflammatory properties and some antibacterial and antiviral qualities used to treat bacteria infection.
Peppermint contains the compound menthol, which helps thin mucus and calm sore throats and coughs.
You can make peppermint tea or buy it, but it is advisable to make it at home. All you have to is buy the leaves and place some dried peppermint in boiled water and let the mixture sit for a few minutes. After a few minutes have passed, strain the tea and allow it to cool slightly.
6. Garlic
Garlic is very potent as it has natural antibacterial properties. It contains allicin, a compound known for its ability to fight off viral infections, on the antiviral uses of garlic.
Medical experts suggest that taking garlic supplements daily, can help prevent and treat upper respiratory tract infections. These same respiratory tract infections may potentially cause a sore throat.
Adding fresh garlic to your diet is another way of taking advantage of its antimicrobial properties.
