At least 700 permanent voter cards (PVCs) have been retrieved from foreigners residing in Jigawa State by the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS.
The comptroller of the Jigawa State command of the NIS, Ahmad Dauda Bagari, made this known on Friday, noting that the recovery was part of the NIS’ effort to ensure that no foreigner will vote in the coming 2023 general elections.
The foreigners were also said to be in possession of National Identification cards.
The statement, signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSI Nura Usman Ibrahim, stressed that the 700 foreigners were arrested in possession of PVCs and National Identification cards.
“The cards were confiscated and handed over to the national headquarters of NIS in Abuja.
“The command has ordered the closure of all borders in the state from 00:00hrs of 25th February 2023 to 00:00hrs of Sunday 26th February 2023.
“The command called on the people of the state to make use of provided guidelines to attain free, fair, and credible elections in the state,” the statement added.
