The All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted a legal team consisting of twelve Senior Advocates of Nigeria to defend its presidential election victory on February 25.
This was revealed in a press statement signed by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq, Esq, in Abuja today.
According to the statement, the team will be led by Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN.
The party expressed complete confidence in the legal team and wished the Presidential Election Petition success.
Earlier, the party’s Presidential Campaign Council formed a legal team on Friday to defend the mandate given to the party and President-elect Bola Tinubu.
The legal team includes Lateef Fagbemi (Lead Counsel); Ahmad El-Marzuq (Life Bencher); Sam Ologunorisa;Rotimi Oguneso; Olabisi Syebo; Gbotega Oyewole; Muritala Abdulrasheed; Aliyu Saiki; Tajudeen Oladoja; Pius Akubo; Oluseye Opasanya; Suraju Saida and Kazeem Adeniyi.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, and Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate, who were defeated at the polls, are currently disputing the election results in court, alleging electoral fraud.
Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, was declared the election winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission with 8, 794,726 votes.
According to INEC, Tinubu’s closest competitor, Abubakar, received 6, 984, 520 votes, while Obi received 6, 101, 533 votes.
