Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said the language of vice presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Datti Baba-Ahmed, does not portray him as a democrat.
The famous playwright noted that no one should threaten the judiciary even in the event of unfavourable judgements in the courts.
He said this while speaking on Arise Television programme. According to the playwright, he has never seen anyone threaten the judiciary the way Datti did on Channels Television a few days ago.
“I never heard anyone threaten the judiciary the way Datti did. Blackmailing, menacing language,” Soyinka said.
Datti was quoted as telling the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, that if he goes ahead to swear in the president-elect, he would be engaging in acts he described as unconstitutional.
He said “If you do it, you have done something unlawful, something unconstitutional. I’m not taking risks with my safety and with my life. It was more extreme for [INEC Chairman.”
The LP and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Tuesday, filed a petition at the Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja, challenging Tinubu’s declaration as the winner of the February 25, 2023, presidential election.
