Nigerian entrepreneur and philanthropist Aliko Dangote has regained his status as the wealthiest individual in Africa, as reported by Forbes Real-Time Billionaires.
Johann Rupert, a South African business magnate, held the title for the past week before being surpassed by Dangote. The latest rankings, as of January 8, indicate an increase in Dangote’s net worth by $10 million, reaching $10.1 billion. In contrast, Rupert’s net worth as of January 8 declined to $10 billion from $10.7 billion on January 30, 2023.
Dangote, who serves as the leader of the Dangote Group, holds the 191st position on Forbes’ global list of wealthy individuals, while Rupert is ranked 197th worldwide. A pivotal figure in Nigeria’s economic landscape, Dangote achieved the distinction of becoming the country’s first billionaire in 2007.
Notably, in 2013, he augmented his personal wealth by $9.2 billion, securing the 30th spot on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and asserting his position as Africa’s wealthiest individual.
As of June 2022, Dangote maintained his status as the wealthiest person in Africa, boasting an estimated net worth of US$20 billion.
