The Supreme Court has reserved its judgment on the appeal challenging Governor Dapo Abiodun’s victory in the March 2023 election.
Earlier in November 2023, the Court of Appeal in Lagos upheld Abiodun’s win in a close 2-1 decision, rejecting the challenge posed by Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Justice Joseph Shagbaor Ikyegh, delivering the majority decision, dismissed Adebutu’s petition, while the dissenting judge, Habeeb Abiru, voiced disagreement.
Abiodun, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured victory in the March 2023 election.
Adebutu, however, raised concerns about irregularities and electoral malpractices, leading to an initial dismissal of his petition by the Ogun Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in September. Undeterred, Adebutu appealed to the Court of Appeal and subsequently to the Supreme Court.
