Former Barcelona star, Samuel Eto’o, fought to hold back tears as Cameroon secured a spot in the Round of 16 in a thrilling Africa Cup of Nations match.
Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions staged an impressive comeback, scoring two goals in the last five minutes to secure a 3-2 victory against Gambia. The match, hailed as one of the tournament’s best, elevated Cameroon to the runners-up position in Group C.
After the final whistle, a video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) showcased Eto’o, the Cameroon FA president, embracing players and staff in a jubilant dressing room. Eto’o, who has 118 caps for Cameroon and scored 56 goals, was visibly moved, covering his eyes in an attempt to compose himself.
Cameroon clinched their spot in the knockout stage by outscoring Guinea, who lost 2-0 to group winner Senegal. Senegal, with a perfect nine points, topped Group C, with Cameroon and Guinea advancing with four points each. Gambia, despite their spirited performance, finished at the bottom of the group.
