Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has met with another chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), further fueling speculation about his future political plans.
El-Rufai was seen visiting the Abuja residence of Senator Abubakar Gada, accompanied by prominent figures from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) including SDP chairman Shehu Musa Gabam and other party leaders.
In attendance were also Senator Teslim Folarin, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for Oyo State in the 2023 general elections, and Senator Nazif Suleiman, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Bauchi State.
This meeting, held at Senator Gada’s home in Abuja on Sunday night, follows El-Rufai’s recent hosting of a gathering at his Abuja residence for a Ramadan iftar (the breaking of fast), attended by a diverse group including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and other political figures such as Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, a chieftain of the APC.
El-Rufai also paid a visit to Gabam at the SDP secretariat, showcasing his willingness to engage in cross-party dialogue.
Photos from these interactions have circulated on social media, fueling speculation about El-Rufai’s potential presidential bid in 2027. However, his media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, has refuted such claims, dismissing them as an “unhealthy obsession with politics.”
