The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has again insisted that the general elections will hold as planned.
In a passing remark when the new Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Thursday, Brig. General Yushu’a Ahmed visited the commission, Yakubu said the commission has no plans to shift any of the elections.
Yakubu, who was apparently reacting to media reports alleging a planned extension of the elections, however, did not elaborate.
He also assured the NYSC that Corps members mobilized for the polls would be safe.
He stated that the commission was fortunate to have a large number of youths ready for deployment in the elections, and that no electoral commission in the world can conduct any election solely on the strength of its staff.
Brig. General Yushu’a Ahmed, the new NYSC DG, stated that the NYSC’s commitment to delivering credible elections in the country was unwavering, and he praised the commission’s and the Service’s cordial relationship.
