Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola better known as Naira Marley, has had his trial for cybercrime adjourned again on Monday, in a Lagos Federal High Court.
As gathered by QUEST TIMES, the new trial dates fixed by the court are November 13 and 30, 2023, as the Lagos police failed to produce Marley in court on Monday.
Marley’s lawyer, Olalekan Ojo, requested an adjournment, saying that the singer who was absent in court, had in previous court sessions, also been absent due to his detention by the police in connection with the death of Mohbad, which the court granted.
However, the prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, asked the court to issue a production warrant against Marley, so as to ensure his presence at the next hearing. Nicholas Oweibo, the presiding judge, granted the request.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Marley on charges of conspiracy and credit card fraud.
Recall that Marley was arraigned on May 20, 2019, and pleaded not guilty. The court granted him bail of two million naira.
Marley is also a person of interest in the death of Mohbad. On October 4, a magistrate court in Yaba remanded him in custody for 21 days for questioning.
This trial for cybercrime is ongoing.
