Manchester United have a pre-agreed deal in place with Fiorentina’s midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat. However, the transfer risks falling through due to United’s struggle to offload squad players before the transfer window closes, according to sources.
United is actively seeking to bolster their midfield with new signings before the window shuts. Sofyan Amrabat, who gained prominence as a standout player for Morocco in the 2022 World Cup, has been a target for United to reinforce their central midfield. With a need for more defensive-minded players, Amrabat’s skills are seen as a valuable addition.
Although personal terms with Amrabat have been settled, and a provisional fee of around £29 million has been agreed with Fiorentina, the transfer is dependent on United creating room in their squad, particularly in the midfield, to avoid an overabundance of options.

United had communicated to Fiorentina that they would need to offload two midfielders to facilitate the transfer. While Fred’s move to Fenerbahce has been completed, United wishes to confirm the departure of another midfielder before finalizing the Amrabat deal.
West Ham United expressed interest in Scott McTominay and submitted a £30 million bid that was rejected by United. Although McTominay’s suitors seem limited to West Ham, other factors, such as Manchester City’s pursuit of Lucas Paqueta, could potentially impact the situation.
Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek is also on United’s list for offloading, but negotiations with Real Sociedad for a permanent deal have yet to progress. The lack of advancement in these talks is hindering United’s plans to sign new players.
The delay is causing frustration for both Fiorentina and Amrabat. Despite other clubs showing interest over the summer, the potential transfer to Old Trafford remains a top priority for the player. United is hopeful that a resolution on Van de Beek’s departure will be reached soon, enabling them to proceed with signing a new midfielder.
