Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been declared the winner of the election for Governor of Adamawa State by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Hudu Ari, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, made the announcement, with results from 10 local governments still to be revealed following Saturday’s supplementary election.
The Quest Times had reported that the collation of results for the Adamawa Governorship Supplementary polls, which continued late Saturday night with results from 10 councils tabulated, puts Governor Ahmadu Fintiri ahead of his All Progressives Congress rival, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani.
The process began at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night, with results from Demsa and Yola South Local Government Areas submitted at the collation center by the local government returning officers.
Governor Fintiri extended his lead of 31,249 points with wins in Demsa, Lamurde, Jada, Ganye, Song, Maiha, Hong, and Shelleng, while Sen. Binani won only in Yola North and Yola South out of ten council areas in the Adamawa Supplementary Governorship elections.
At the time of posting this article, the results from the 10 Councils showed that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was still leading Sen Binani in the polls for the Dougirei government house.
As of now, Fintiri has received 3, 881 votes out of the 37,016 votes cast in the supplemental polls, while Sen. Binani has received 2,527 votes.
Collation of Governorship will continue later on Sunday at 11 a.m. The embattled REC, Barrister Yunusa Ari, announced the suspension of Collation when he returned unexpectedly to oversee the conduct of the supplementary polls.
