The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned the victory of Governor Dauda Lawal in Zamfara State. The court declared the March 18 Governorship election inconclusive, citing irregularities.
Governor Lawal, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had been declared the winner, but a 3-man panel of Justices unanimously voided and set aside this declaration.
Justice Sybil Nwaka Gbagiz, delivering the lead judgment, emphasized that the use of IREV information to proclaim Lawal as governor without polling unit results was deemed unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional.
As a result, the court has mandated a fresh election to be conducted, specifically in Maradun Local Government Area and other areas where elections were either canceled or didn’t take place at all.
