The Federal Government has earmarked the sum of N470bn in the 2023 budget for the revitalisation of universities and an upward review of salaries.
The Minister for Finance, Zainab Ahmed, made the disclosure on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.
According to Zainab, N300bn has been pencilled for the revitalisation of universities, while N170bn is for the upward review of salaries.
The move comes after the Academic Staff Union of Universities raised an alarm, saying despite calling off the 8 months strike, their demands had still not been met.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke said the Union was calling off the strike due to the NICN court ruling.
He said, “As you have seen from our press release – although there were interventions by the Speaker (Femi Gbajabiamila) and others – the major reason we are resuming is because we are obeying the industrial court’s judgement.
“The issues have not been fully resolved and no agreements signed,” he said.
