Nigerian football player, Taiwo Awoniyi, is hopeful that the Super Eagles will win the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year.
The team has secured their spot in the tournament with one game left to play after defeating Sierra Leone 3-2 last month.
The Super Eagles have previously won the tournament three times but were knocked out in the Round of 16 by Tunisia in the last competition held in Cameroon. Despite this, Awoniyi expressed confidence in their ability to become champions once again in Ivory Coast.

“I think everyone in the squad is happy; the first stage is to qualify for the AFCON which we did already, then the next stage now is just to try everything possible to win the AFCON, which is the target for the country,” Awoniyi told Channels Television.
“The last one was an experience, I was there and we are happy we are there again and of course, we want to go there and we want to win the trophy for sure.”
The Quest Times reports that the Super Eagles have qualified for the 2024 African Nations Cup topping Group A with 12 points in five matches. Fourteen other countries including the hosts, Ivory Coast have also qualified for the 24-team tournament.
Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen is the highest goal scorer in the 2023 AFCON qualifier with 7 goals.
