AS Roma has terminated Jose Mourinho’s contract, citing the club’s best interests.
Jose, along with his team, was let go on Tuesday, departing earlier than expected, despite his contract initially set to end in June.
The club expressed gratitude for Mourinho’s passion and hard work, recognizing the memorable moments during his time. This decision comes as Roma faces challenges in Serie A, currently holding the ninth position, five points away from Champions League spots.
The 60-year-old Portuguese coach, who took charge in 2021, achieved victory in the Europa Conference League in 2022 but encountered difficulties this season. There is speculation in the Italian media about the potential replacement, with former Roma captain Daniele De Rossi, a 2006 World Cup winner with Italy, being considered.
Owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin conveyed their thanks to Mourinho, stating, “We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” said owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin.
“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.
“We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavors.”
