Justice Hamza Muazu from the Federal Capital Territory High Court has ruled that Godwin Emefiele, ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, will be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Center until a verdict is reached on his bail plea.
Emefiele denied the charges brought by the EFCC, consisting of six counts, during the court session. The case is now scheduled to resume on November 22 for the ongoing bail hearing.
Matthew Burkaa SAN, Emefiele’s lead counsel, presented the bail application, which faced opposition from Rotimi Oyedepo, representing the Federal Government.
The judge, Justice Muazu, expressed the complexity of the case, stating that a prompt decision could not be made due to the numerous legal references presented by both parties.
He (Justice Muazu) requested additional time to thoroughly review the case’s authorities and examine the evidence submitted by Emefiele in support of his bail request.
