A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced celebrity transgender, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to six months in jail without the option of a fine.
Bobrisky was convicted by Justice Abimbola Awogboro last week Friday, April 5, 2024, for abusing and mutilating Naira notes. This followed his arrest and arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court scheduled the date for sentencing after Bobrisky pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of tampering with N490,000 by spraying, brought against him by EFCC.
Justice Awogboro noted that the verdict aims to deter others from similar acts of abusing the Nigerian currency.
The Judge, however, stipulated that the jail term begins on March 24, 2024, the day of Bobrisky’s arrest.
